Keane. from their myspace page

Our new album, 'Under The Iron Sea' was recorded at The Magic Shop in Soho, New York, and back at Helioscentric Studios, near Battle, a small town in the south of England where we went to school together.

In making this record we tried to confront all our worst fears, to ruthlessly scrutinise ourselves, our relationships with each other, with other people, and with the world at large, and to make a journey into the darkest places we could find. It made for an incredibly intense atmosphere during the writing and recording of the album, and the resultant music very much reflects that.

In the songs we created a kind of sinister fairytale-world-gone-wrong, a feeling of confusion and numbness represented by a dark place under an impenetrable iron sea. To express all this we created entirely new sounds by putting an old electric piano and various analogue synths through many different combinations of vintage guitar effects pedals, creating soundscapes that range from the percussive to vast oppressive walls of distortion.

We were writing, singing and performing with a drive, intensity and fury that is almost unrecognisable from our previous music. We wrote 'Under The Iron Sea' because we needed a record that was going to make us feel alive again.

Scissor Sisters! This is the kind of shit that you get when you live in New York! Dammit!

Scissor Sisters performed two concerts at New York's Bowery Ballroom this weekend. I assume these gigs were used to play some of their new music to gauge the audience response and to stir up some momentum for what's to come. Even some of their peers were in attendance. Kylie Minogue (yes! Kylie Minogue!) was at their show last night. David emailed me that he saw Cher in the crowd on Saturday. He also wrote that the new songs sound really good. "'I Don't Feel Like Dancing' is the stand out track, totally catchy and fun," he wrote me this morning. "Ana was hysterical all night. She joked about having a dream that she ran into Madonna at the Roxy. Jake looked like he's been working out."If anybody has photos or more stories, please share! Saturday's setlist:

Take Your Mama

Kiss You Off

a sunday at the lake

William had a surprise birthday party for Bryan out at their lake house....
what a lovely, splendid day!
Unfortunately I left the camera in Brian's car at the end of the afternoon, not expecting that we would end up staying another six hours - going on a sunset boat ride, Rob and Wade grilling burgers, then building a bon-fire down by the water.... all and all a fabulous Sunday!
